Where shall I begin? I was ever so glad to have
so many letters and shall answer them first.
It will be interesting to get into touch with
Hong Kong Welshmen. I am so glad Dada will have a restfrom Summer School in
August, although I think you (Mama) were more tired by it than Dada and as
for the chef (Auntie -she must have cooked thousands of cakes for Summer
School guests. lt is finethat lanto is so well. I hope he won't get too fat.
The letters take about a month to come. The
last one I have is Auntie's .Can't you send them via Trans-Siberia? The
Berliner Tageblatt of Jan. 25th was here a few days ago.
I am looking forward to seeing Slade's picture
.I did not feel the earthquake in California and onlyknew about it when I
read it in the paper.
I'm sorry lanto's been barking so much .Dioloch
yn fawr Dada am gymryd ef allan am dro. It was Annie Rees 's sister who
either called or sent someone to the Consulate in Los Angeles. I am
glad indeed that Phyllis is staying . Don't bother to send me the Russian
Magazine. Don't trouble about the cheques. The Western Mail is going
to pay the money to the bank direct. Don't trouble about the letters also.
Just forward them. What is Enid's new sweetheart like? I was delighted to
hear of Wyn getting married.& Chris wedding must have been grand. I'm very
glad Auntie Teg's out of hospital .Please give her my love - and also to the
Rees's and Miss Madeline and Mr Davies. I wonder if the books have come .
Some were sent from New York,
I can imagine Ianto jumping when the children
came. I am looking forward to his welcoming me when I return. I hope he'll
remember me after a long absence.
Don't send the Journal of Int. National
Affairs.1 can see it in the institute here. I should like to receive the
article on George Harris. Thank you for the other articles.
What a great poetess Siriol has become .1
should like to have been with Siriol and John and all at the Panto.
The news about the house is excellent
(£625) is a very good price.
Madame de Storupka's address is Warsaw
Sunnadeckrich 18 1.
I enclose a cheque for £21 (insurance -51.
for horse) It's funny. I sent a cheque for hose from Honolulu where the
Royal Stables reminded me of it..
It is splendid to have such good notes
about Japan from you and they are very useful.
And now I have gone through the letters. But it
is almost time to put my evening clothes on to dine with the Ambassador (Sir
Robert Clive) at the Embassy compound. The Governor of Queensland will also
be there.
I received the following from the Radio Editor
of the Los Angeles Examiner who arranged my broadcast. He says "In the
history of broadcasting by the Examiner we have had no program which met
with such favourable comment "-(there was no one else on the program).
"The phone calls which you answered immediately
following the broadcast and the ones you were unable to answer because of
the lack of time go down on our records as heading the list of answers to a
broadcast on which no answers were requested .
"Officials of the Warner Brothers Station
K.F.W.B.,tell me they also received nothing but favourable comment.
"I personally wish to comment and congratulate
you on the quality of your voice .It was soft .clear and convincing.
"The next time you are in Southern California I
trust that you make it a point to plan on another broadcast. The Examiner
will feel deeply honored to include you upon one of its feature programs.
What do you think of that? If I could fix a
series of well-paid radio talks and lectures (see Miss Cause's letter) in
America, it might be worth returning home via America .It might be better to
do South China and the Philippines while it is still cool instead of when it
is boiling hot in August.. Then come to Japan for the hot season where it is
not so bad as in Hong Kong . Then sail to America for radio talks in the
autumn .Of course it may be difficult to arrange a series, but the Radio
Editor 's letter is certainly hopeful.
I might therefore go to Shanghai, Hong Kong
.Philippines before the sweltering heat comes and work my way northwards
away from the sun .I'll let you know about the letters
The time has rushed along so much that I'd
better leave my experiences in Japan to another letter. I am having a great
time and am most happy . I found a journalist friend Günther Stein whom I
knew in London -Jew, formerly of Berliner Tageblatt and we are living in the
same apartment house . He is good company.
Cariad Cynesaf and lot of gusannau.
